Abstract

The article deals with the life, scientific and pedagogical heritage of V. O. Zamlynskyi. On the basis of archival materials, works of the scientist, memoirs of the family and colleagues, the contribution of the historian to the development of historical science, in particular, the history of Ukraine, special historical disciplines, archival studies, etc. is evaluated. In 1982, V. Zamlynskiy was invited as a head of the Department of Archival Studies and special historical disciplines at the History Department of Kyiv University, where he continued the best traditions of the collective. Having archivistry education and experience in practical archival activity, he made a lot in the 80’s for the establishment of cooperation between the department and archival institutions, with the Main Archival Department of the Government of the USSR, for the deployment of source-study and archival studies. In the conditions of the Gorbachev perestroika and glasnost, the staff of the department and, above all, its head V. Zamlynskyi turned to the actual problems of the history of Ukraine, to the forgotten themes and so-called “white spots”, to enrich the source base of the history of Ukraine and its purification from distortions and falsifications. He managed to bring the Department of Archival Studies to a qualitatively new level, turning it into one of the leading centers in Ukraine for thorough training of specialists in archival affairs and special historical disciplines. V. Zamlynskyi made a significant contribution to the development of national history, source studies, and archivists.
